After his initial assignment as Tactical Intelligence Officer, 1st Battalion, 198th Armor, Mississippi Army National Guard, he joined the Active Guard and Reserve Program with initial assignment to the Apache Training Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas.

He formerly served as the Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2, where he was the senior advisor to the Secretary of the Army and Army Chief of Staff for all aspects of intelligence, counterintelligence and security.
