After the Ghost comes to tell Hamlet of his murder, Hamlet begins his second soliloquy in which he wants revenge and says “So, uncle, there you are; now to my word; It is “Adieu, adieu! This ambition leads to the downfall of the play which in turn causes Fortinbras, similar to Hamlet, is loyal to his father after he is murdered.
Horatio is very loyal to Hamlet and Hamlet trusts him by explaining to him that he is “acting” mad.
However, Hamlet becomes angered when he finds Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to be disloyal.
In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, betrayal is a reoccurring action between many characters.
This play shows the audience different types of betrayal that are imaginable, from a husband betraying his wife, a boyfriend betraying his girlfriend and a mother betraying the son and father.
Claudius faces the truth that his secret got out and Hamlet knows he killed King Hamlet. The Shakespearean play of Hamlet captures the audience with many suspenseful and devastating themes including betrayal.
Not wanting to ruin his reputation and of course stay king he plans to have Hamlet killed. Some of the most loved characters get betrayed by who they thought loved them most. When Claudius finds out about this, he sends Cornelius and Voltimand to deliver a message to Fortinbras’ uncle warning him “his nephew’s purpose, to suppress his further gait herein, in that the levies, the lists and full proportions, are all made out of his subject” (I. Therefore, Fortinbras’ loyalty towards his father stirs up a false foreshadow where the audience believes that Fortinbras will attack Denmark to avenge his father’s death. The loyalty between Horatio and Hamlet is opposite to the loyalty between Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and Hamlet. He is the type of person that will do anything to get what he wants and everything in his power to stay king.He will do what it takes to get his way, even if that means betraying the person he is supposed to be committed to and love, his wife Gertrude. The things these characters do to the people they love are wrong, hurtful and disappointing. These examples lead to the destruction of many characters physically and emotionally. The characters in the play who committed the act of betrayal end up paying for what they have done in the form of death, either from nature, their selfishness, disloyalty and madness. The act of betrayal truly captures and displays the play of Hamlet as a sad tragedy. The entire play revolves around the murder of King Hamlet.Betrayal is expanded even further, there is not one character who does not commit betrayal through the course of the play.
